Detection of gas trace of hydrofluoric acid using microcantilever

Abstract Microcantilevers have been used as a gas sensor in order to detect Hydrofluoric acid (HF) in the concentration range of 0.26–13 ppm. Silicon derived elements (Si 3 N 4 , SiO x ) were chosen to serve as chemical sensitive layer. Cantilever deflection and frequency shift were analyzed and compared as a function of the flow rate and the concentration of the HF molecules. The stoichiometry and roughness of the sensitive layer were found to be of major importance. Results show that the most appropriate signal at the lowest concentration ( x surface by HF. The frequency shift that is mainly governed by the loss in cantilever mass can be used at higher concentration.

Cleaning and retreatment protocol for a debonded ceramic restoration

Objectives: The aim of this article is to propose a resin cement cleaning protocol for use before recementing a debonded restoration. Study Design: Ceramic samples were fabricated from IPS d.sign® and IPS e.max Press® and were treated with hydrofluoric acid etching (HF), or HF+silane (S), or HF+S+adhesive or HF+S+A+resin cement. All samples were placed in a furnace at 650º for one minute in order to attempt to pyrolyze the composite. Each step was examined under scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Determination of SiO 2 in lime mud by gravimetry

A simple and rapid method for the determination of SiO2 in lime mud used in current sulfate pulping practice is reported. The lime mud samples are treated three times with 2.5 mL of 6 mol/L hydrochloric acid. The samples are nearly evaporated to dryness two times and the third time to complete dryness. To determine the exact SiO2 content of the residue, it is treated with an excess of concentrated hydrofluoric acid and a little hydrochloric acid, and the silica is expelled as volatile silicon tetrafluoride. Development and Optimization of Pre-Concentration Procedure of Rare-Earth Elements (REEs) in Their Minerals, Using Microwave - Assisted Sample Dissol…

Abstract The aim of this research was to develop and optimize a procedure for determination of REEs in xenotime and monazite samples collected from Bangka Island, which were compared to Standard Monazite (71 AG) of Bureau of Analyzed Samples, London. ICP-OES method was used for the determination. The samples were dried and sterilized by heating for a week at 110 °C, before digesting with nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid, using a microwave-assisted digestion system. After a careful line selection, at the detection limits for all REEs in the ng/mL the REEs were reliably obtained at the 0.09 – 38% level.

Fluoride Complexation of Element 104, Rutherfordium

Fluoride complexation of element 104, rutherfordium (Rf), produced in the 248Cm(18O,5n)261Rf reaction has been studied by anion-exchange chromatography on an atom-at-a-time scale. The anion-exchange chromatographic behavior of Rf was investigated in 1.9-13.9 M hydrofluoric acid together with those of the group-4 elements Zr and Hf produced in the 18O-induced reactions on Ge and Gd targets, respectively. It was found that the adsorption behavior of Rf on anion-exchange resin is quite different from those of Zr and Hf, suggesting the influence of relativistic effects on the fluoride complexation of Rf.

Adsorption of Db and its homologues Nb and Ta, and the pseudo-homologue Pa on anion-exchange resin in HF solution

Anion-exchange chromatography of element 105, dubnim (Db), produced in the 206 Cm( 19 F, 5n) 262 Db reaction is investigated together with the homologues Nb and Ta, and the pseudo-homologue Pa in 13.9 M hydrofluoric acid (HF) solution. The distribution coefficient (K d ) of Db on an anion-exchange resin is successfully determined by running cycles of 1702 chromatographic column separations. The result clearly indicates that the adsorption of Db on the resin is significantly different from that of the homologues and that the adsorption of anionic fluoro complexes of these elements decreases in the sequence of Ta ≈ Nb > Db > Pa.

Core hole screening and decay rates of double core ionized first row hydrides.

Because of the high intensity, X-ray free electron lasers allow one to create and probe double core ionized states in molecules. The decay of these multiple core ionized states crucially determines the evolution of radiation damage in single molecule diffractive imaging experiments. Here we have studied the Auger decay in hydrides of first row elements after single and double core ionization by quantum mechanical ab initio calculations. In our approach the continuum wave function of the emitted Auger electron is expanded into spherical harmonics on a radial grid. Direct perturbation theory in terms of energy derivatives: scalar-relativistic treatment up to sixth order.

A formulation of sixth-order direct perturbation theory (DPT) to treat relativistic effects in quantum-chemical calculations is presented in the framework of derivative theory. Detailed expressions for DPT6 are given at the Hartree-Fock level in terms of the third derivative of the energy with respect to the relativistic perturbation parameter defined as λ(rel)=c(-2). They were implemented for the computation of scalar-relativistic energy corrections.
